YSGI Infrastructure Ltd., owned by me, is an established company that executes projects in installing various pipeline infrastructure systems.My regular customers are: Water and Sewage Corporations, which control several cities in southern Israel, and the Israeli Defense Ministry, "Construction of the Southern Region".My company is installing piping infrastructure for new construction areas, renewing pipeline infrastructure in populated areas and ongoing maintenance services in Ashdod, Ashkelon, Sderot, Netivot, Ofakim.As a service for the IDF, the South Social Area installs piping infrastructure in the area controlled by "Construction of the Southern Region", from Ashkelon to the southern city of Eilat.With the development marketplace of horizontal drilling technologies, we purchased a number of drilling machines from the manufacturer DITCH WITCH in various sizes. With the help of these machines my company is installing infrastructure pipelines using the HDD method: pulling the Pexgol piping from one access hole to the next one through horizontal boreholes without the need for Open horizontal excavation.The HDD method is used for the following purposes:
- Transferring deep underground pipelines Through areas of close- packed infrastructure lines
- For the passage of underground pipelines without interruption of ongoing activities, crossing of active roads, crossing of traffic junctions and crowded public areas.
There are many installations in the HDD system where we are required to string horizontal sections of Pexgol pipes, hundreds of meters long, consisting of severalshorter pipe sections connected by EF Electrofusion couplers.
The Pexgol pipes that were used so far in these projects were of classes 10 to 15 inthe diameter range between 90 to 315 mm.
We perform the drilling and insertion process in the following sequence of operations:
- Excavation of access pits (entry and exit of the drilling rig).
2. Performing a drilling (HDD oriented) between the access pits using a Drill bit (see attached picture) The Bit type depends on the type of soil.
3. Expansion of the drilling diameter by: WATER WING BACKERAMER
3.1 Injection of BENTONITE solution.
The BENTONITE layer adheres to the sides of the borehole to prevent the "collapse of soil" into the drilling route, and creates a "greasy" lubricating layer that helps in the insertion of the pipes (picture attached).
This device performs a round-trip (back and forth) throughout the drilling, to ensure continuity in its width and uniformity.
- When the Drill bit is located at the end of the drill, the end of the pipe is attached to the watering device with the SLEEVED PULLER, which provides an absolute grip to the end of the pipe and seals the end of the pipe from possible penetration of soil material into it.
4.1Between the machine: SLEEVED PULLER and the drill we install the CLEVIS TO TAB which provides a "rotary joint" to separate the movement between the drill (moving in a Rotary motion) and the pipe (moving in an axial motion).
- The pull is performed in a manner in which the expansion device (WATER WING BACKERAMER) accompanies the pipe in front, leading the move forwards while maintaining the width of the hole.
- The insertion process is controlled by monitoring the "hydraulic stresses" which are created in the drilling machine and it is compared with the basic data provided by the equipment manufacturer.
- When the end of the pipe emerges from the drill, visual integrity check is done for the diameter of the pipe and the condition of scratches (in case they are caused by the insertion operation).
In my experience of dozens of projects in which my team have inserted the Pexgol piping which was connected with Electrofusion couplers , this is a success .I have never encountered any mechanical or any other problem, neither during the installation phase nor during the service of the pipes while functioning in the water supply infrastructure .
